Dr. Ma, Ph.D. an interdisciplinary conservation scientist working on critically endangered species research at the Institute of Zoology, the Zoological Society of London, the world's oldest scientific zoo, and the UK's most prestigious. She used mixed ecological and social science methods to gather scientific evidence for some of the world's most pressing challenges in the area of biodiversity loss and species extinction. She has worked on numerous species including the world's rarest primate, the Hainan gibbon, the Chinese giant salamander, Asian freshwater turtles, Yangtze finless porpoise, Chinese alligator, blue-crowned laughing thrush, Hainan peacock pheasant, and Hainan Eld's deer.
Her publication record of a total of three first-authored papers, 13 co-authored peer-reviewed papers, and an h-index of 4. demonstrates her strong commitment to research, her ability to work as a team member, and her motivation to be a well-rounded researcher.
In addition to publications, Dr. Ma strives to increase the impact of her research by presenting at academic and conservation conferences such as the British Ecological Society Annual Meeting, and the European Congress on Conservation Biology, and has been invited to present at the Linnean Society Autumn Symposium and the Natural History Museum's ‘Explorers' Conference'. Furthermore, she created numerous multi-media scientific outreach content including co-hosting an episode of ZSL's award-winning ‘Wild Science' podcast, written 7 blog articles on my research and on zoology-inspired art to inspire creative thinking, and contributed to ‘International Gibbon Day' activities for the public onsite at the zoo, school groups during Biology Week, Scouts UK, Soapbox Science, and hosted sixth-form students for ‘job shadow' experiences.
